I recently came across a review for Sudden Flash Youth that included a very kind mention of my story The Quinceañera Text: “One of my favorites is The Quinceanera Text, which of course deals with generational cultural differences and values. But it is sweet and the young girl realizes the importance of her gift. ‘Will you teach me some of Juanita’s recipes?’ She smiled, her black eyes disappearing into the wrinkles lining her face. ‘I teach you everything I know.’ Love.” Read the rest review here.
Since its original publication, The Quinceañera Text has appeared in Scholastic’s Scope magazine and a Houghton-Mifflin educational anthology. It was also featured at Pine Manor College as part of its Women of Promise Scholarship contest: “Each student read a beautiful story – The Quinceañera Text, by Erin Fanning – with a cross-generational theme that resounded with the students own experiences. When they arrived at Pine Manor each student wrote an essay on the story and later participated in a seminar-style discussion with their peers and a member of the faculty.”
A Texas high school also selected The Quinceañera Text for the Oral Interpretation – University Interscholastic League Contest, and it was read and discussed at an Arizona community college as part of a freshman English course.
It’s been an incredible honor to have my story recognized and enjoyed by such a diverse group of people.
I didn’t know all about this wonderful publishing Ms Fanning. Where was I?
The best of writing and publishing to you!
