The earthquake hit L’Aquila, Italy on April 6, 2009. Maria D’Antuono, a resourceful 98-year-old, grabbed her knitting supplies and crawled under her bed. The stone house crumbled around her, yet, when firefighters found Maria 30 hours later, she was not only unhurt but continued to knit.
“At least let me comb my hair,” she said to her rescuers as they helped her to safety.

I have failed to learn how to knit more times than I can count. I’m so glad others can do it, and I love the idea of magical knitting.

I pretty much feel like whenever I finish a knitted project that magic must have played a role because I’m about the least crafty person there is. I once knitted mittens for my niece that had giant thumbs, more appropriate for Sissy Hankshaw from Even Cowgirls Get the Blues than a 10-year-old girl.
